The scope of work carried through many portions of the home. The kitchen was expanded into an existing mud room space to create a large and open kitchen/family room space, with sweeping views of Lake Washington and Husky Stadium. The top floor was extended over the top of the 1980’s addition to add a third top floor bedroom and bathroom to give the teenage son and daughter separate bathrooms. A home office was added where a covered patio had once been on the basement level and the remainder of the basement was updated to serve as a rec room and home theater.

The job provided several challenges for the CCH team. The second story addition extended over both the original house and the 1980s addition. Once the walls were opened up and the framing was exposed it turned out the two structures didn’t quite line up with each other. This discrepancy had to be corrected before the addition portion could be framed. Also, due to the addition’s location on the back of the house the trusses had to be craned over the peak of the existing roof to be set in place. Finally the stucco façade on the existing deck columns had hidden the fact that the structural wood posts had completely rotted away and that the deck was being held up by nothing but stucco!!! CCH replaced all of the structural components of the deck and installed new IPE decking and a stainless steel cable railing system.

Throughout the home plumbing and electrical systems were brought up to date including the addition of hardwired, high speed internet and whole house audio. Custom cabinets were installed in the kitchen, bathrooms, rec room and office. The original oak hardwood floors were patched in where walls were relocated and the floors were then refinished throughout the house utilizing a dark stain. A new cedar shake roof was installed on the entire house.
